Driver requirements

Driver and documentation

To rent a car with Wiber, you need to meet certain requirements regarding age, driving experience and documentation. Here’s everything you need to know before picking up your car.

Minimum age 21 years
Driving licence held for 1 year
Additional drivers Up to 3

Driver requirements

You must be at least 21 years old and hold a driving licence that is valid in Spain, appropriate for the type of car you are renting and that you have held for at least one year.

If you are between 21 and 24 years old, a surcharge of €9 per day applies, up to a maximum of €90 per rental.

Additional drivers

Only drivers authorised in the rental agreement may drive the car.

You can add up to 3 additional drivers for €9 per day, with a maximum charge of €90 per rental and driver.

All drivers must meet the same age, driving licence and documentation requirements.

Required documentation

To sign the rental agreement and pick up the car, both the main driver and any additional drivers must have the Wiber booking number and present the following original, valid documentation in physical format:

  • ID card or passport.
  • Valid driving licence.

We do not accept photographs, screenshots, scanned documents, photocopies, certified copies or printed copies.

The only exception is a Spanish driving licence, which may also be presented digitally through the official miDGT app.

Is your driving licence foreign?

Depending on the country where your driving licence was issued, you may also need to present an International Driving Permit and/or an official translation.

It is your responsibility to check that you have all the documentation required to drive in Spain.

You can check the official requirements in the DGT information on foreign driving licences.

Your flight information

Before signing the rental agreement, we will ask for your flight number and/or boarding pass, as well as proof of your return flight.

We can only hand over the car once you have provided all the required documentation and information.

Other conditions before picking up the car

When picking up the vehicle, you must provide a local address for your stay.

The same person cannot have more than one active rental agreement at the same time. If you need to rent more than one vehicle for the same dates, each rental agreement must have a different main driver.

What Wiber offers

Rates, services and payment

The conditions of your rental vary depending on the rate you choose. Here we explain what each concept means, what each rate includes and how payment works.

Basic Rate With excess and fuel deposit
Locked Price and Smart Car No excess or fuel deposit

Key concepts

Before comparing the rates, there are two important concepts you should know:

Excess

This is the maximum amount you may be liable for in the event of damage to the car, depending on the rate and cover selected.

The amount depends on the vehicle group and will be shown in the list of cars when you book, as well as in your rental agreement.

Fuel deposit

This is the amount corresponding to the car’s fuel tank which, with certain rates, is paid in advance.

The amount varies depending on the vehicle group and the fuel price.

Differences between rates

With the Basic Rate, you will have an excess. The amount depends on the vehicle group and will be shown in your rental agreement.

The excess determines the maximum amount you may be liable for in the event of damage, loss or theft of the vehicle that is not covered by the basic insurance included in the rate.

You will also need to pay the corresponding fuel deposit in advance.

If a charge for damage applies, we will inform you in advance of the reason and amount. An additional €50 damage administration fee will also be charged.

This rate includes roadside assistance only in the event of an accident. In all other cases, the corresponding costs will be borne by the customer.

With Locked Price or Smart Car, there is no excess and you will not need to pay the fuel deposit in advance.

Both rates include Top Cover, our complete cover, as well as free 24-hour roadside assistance.

Top Cover can also be purchased as additional cover if you have booked the Basic Rate or if your booking was made through an external agent.

Having Top Cover does not exempt you from other possible charges arising from services booked or from a breach of the rental conditions.

Smart Box

If you have booked Locked Price, you can collect your keys using Smart Box without going to the counter and at no additional cost. To use it, you must first complete online check-in and have your documentation validated.

Smart Box collection is available during the opening hours of each location.

Services and extras

You can add certain services to your rental depending on your needs and availability at each location. Some surcharges also apply when certain conditions are met.

Child seats and booster seats
You can add a child seat or booster seat for €12.20 per day for each seat or booster, up to a maximum of €95.00 per rental and accessory.

Additional driver
You can add up to 3 additional drivers per rental. The surcharge is €9 per day per driver, up to a maximum of €90 per rental and driver.

Young driver
If the driver is between 21 and 24 years old, inclusive, a surcharge of €9 per day applies, up to a maximum of €90 per rental and driver.

Portugal Pass
Available only for rentals picked up in Seville with the Locked Price or Smart Car rates. It has a flat cost of €60 per rental.

Extra services that have already been provided are non-refundable.

€150 Refund Guarantee for Unagreed Charges

At Wiber, we believe in transparency. That’s why, if we apply and maintain a charge that is not included in the rental terms and conditions accepted by the customer, we commit to refunding the amount charged and paying an additional €150 as a guarantee.

Conditions of Application

The guarantee will apply when, following the review of a complaint, it is confirmed that Wiber has maintained a charge without a valid contractual basis. Charges that are cancelled or refunded during the review process will not trigger this compensation, without prejudice to the customer's legal rights.

Exclusions

Charges covered by the Additional Charges section of these Terms and Conditions are excluded from this guarantee.

Claims

Customers may request a review of any charge through Wiber's official customer service channels. This guarantee is an additional commitment by Wiber and does not limit the customer's legal rights to refunds, compensation or other claims.

Payment

The rental price includes the items you have booked, such as coverage, additional equipment and complementary services, as well as any applicable taxes and fees.

You can pay in advance when making your booking or directly at our office when you pick up the vehicle.

Any additional amounts that apply, such as fuel or charges set out in the rental conditions, will be paid when applicable.

Payment methods

We accept Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards.

We do not accept:

  • Cash.
  • Virtual cards.
  • Prepaid cards.
  • Mobile payments such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.

Other payment conditions

Payment at the office must be made using a single physical card in the cardholder’s name. The cardholder must be present at the time of payment.

If the person making the payment is not the main driver, purchasing the additional Top Cover will be mandatory.

What we expect from you

Use and care of the car

During the rental, you must use the car responsibly and comply with the conditions regarding use, driving and maintenance. Here are the main rules you need to know.

Use of the vehicle

Only drivers authorised in the rental agreement may drive the car.

During the rental, you must not:

  • Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Use the car for commercial or work purposes, transport goods or provide courier services.
  • Take part in races, competitions or training sessions, including on racing circuits.
  • Use the car to move or tow other vehicles.
  • Transport explosive, flammable or corrosive materials, drugs, narcotics or any type of contraband.
  • Drive on roads or terrain in poor condition that could damage the underside of the vehicle.
  • Smoke inside the vehicle.

Where can you drive?

The vehicle must remain within Spanish territory throughout the rental.

You cannot take it to other countries or transport it between islands, from mainland Spain to the islands or vice versa.

The only exception for driving outside Spain is the Portugal Pass, available for rentals picked up in Seville with Locked Price or Smart Car, provided you have purchased this service in advance.

Condition and care of the car

You will receive the vehicle in good mechanical condition, clean and well maintained, together with its accessories and documentation.

During the rental, you are responsible for looking after both the car and all items supplied with it.

When returning the car, all items must be present and in a condition consistent with normal use of the vehicle.

Fuel

The fuel policy for all rates is Full / Full: you receive the car with a full tank and must return it full.

If fuel is missing when you return the car, the amount to be refunded will be calculated based on the unused fuel, using increments of 1/16 of the tank.

When your rate requires payment of the fuel deposit in advance, we will refund the full amount if you return the car with a full tank.

If you upgrade your vehicle, the fuel deposit will correspond to the car you ultimately receive.

Mileage

The maximum mileage allowed for your rental will be shown in your rental agreement.

If you exceed the mileage included in your rental, you will be charged €0.25 for each additional kilometre.

Wiber Rent a Car provides rental vehicles exclusively for holiday use. Commercial use and/or any use involving abuse of unlimited mileage, excessive claims or intensive use of the vehicle will be considered a breach of the rental agreement. We therefore reserve the right to refuse future rental services with Wiber Rent a Car.

Electric vehicles

Electric cars are supplied fully charged and must be returned with a minimum remaining range of 20 km.

If the car runs out of battery during the rental, you will be responsible for any costs incurred.

The charging cables supplied are Type 2 Mennekes cables and must be returned with the vehicle.

Change of plans?

Changes and cancellations

We know plans can change. You can modify or cancel your booking within the time limits and conditions explained below.

General cancellation Free up to 48 hours before pick-up
Wiber Rockstar and Superstar Free up to 24 hours before pick-up

Changing a booking

You can modify your booking without any charge or penalty, subject to availability.

We recommend making any changes at least 24 hours before pick-up so that we can process them correctly.

The pick-up and return location cannot be changed. If you need to change it, you will need to cancel your current booking and make a new one at your preferred location.

You can make changes through your Customer Area. If you need to make a change that is not available there, use the Help Centre on our website.

Cancelling a booking

You can cancel your booking free of charge up to 48 hours before pick-up.

If you cancel less than 48 hours before pick-up, the booking amount will not be refundable.

If you are a member of our Wiber Star loyalty programme with Rockstar or Superstar status, you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up. If you cancel after this deadline, the booking amount will also be non-refundable.

You can cancel directly through your Customer Area or via the Help Centre on our website.

Cancellations due to force majeure

If you need to cancel at the last minute due to force majeure, you will need to provide justification and the corresponding supporting documents.

If Wiber accepts your request, you will receive a voucher for the full value of the booking that can be used for future rentals at any of our locations.

Everything you need to know before returning your car

Return and rental duration

Your rental has an agreed return date, time and location. Here we explain how the rental duration is calculated and what you need to know when returning the car.

Rental duration

Rentals are calculated in 24-hour periods, from the exact pick-up time until the time you return the car.

The maximum duration allowed under a single rental agreement is 27 days.

Need to extend your rental?

If you want to keep the car longer than originally booked, you must request an extension before the agreed rental period ends.

Any extension requires prior authorisation from Wiber and is subject to availability. You cannot keep the car beyond the date and time shown in your rental agreement without our confirmation.

If you have booked Locked Price or Smart Car and need to extend your rental, you can request this remotely through the Help Centre on our website.

If you have booked the Limited Rate, you must go to the office in person to extend your rental agreement and present all the required documentation again.

Only one extension is permitted per rental agreement and under no circumstances may the total rental period exceed 27 days.

Return date and time

You must return the car on the date and at the time shown in your rental agreement.

If you return it later, you will be charged €25 for each day of delay, in addition to the applicable daily rental price for your rate for any additional rental days.

Return location

Pick-up and return must take place at the same location.

We do not deliver vehicles to hotels or other accommodation.

Out-of-hours return

Returning the car to a Wiber office outside the opening hours of the relevant location is not permitted, except in the cases specified in the specific conditions for each destination.

If you have booked Smart Car, pick-up and return take place directly at the designated airport or station car park, depending on the destination. Return is available 24 hours a day.

If you have booked Locked Price, some destinations offer a specific out-of-hours return service at external car parks authorised by Wiber.

Check the specific conditions for your destination for availability, opening hours and details of how this service works.

Pick-up and return with Smart Car

With the Smart Car rate, both pick-up and return take place at the airport car park, and the car can be returned 24 hours a day. Pick-up, however, must take place within the opening hours established for each location.

At pick-up, Wiber covers the cost of parking for up to 1 hour after the scheduled time shown in your booking. If you collect the car after this period, you will be responsible for the additional parking cost.

The specific hours for each location are detailed in its specific conditions.

Early return

If you decide to return the car before the scheduled date, the early return conditions set out in the Changes and cancellations section will apply.

Charges to keep in mind

Additional charges

Additional charges may arise during the rental in the event of damage, loss, delays or breaches of the agreed rental conditions.Whenever a charge applies, we will inform you of the reason, amount and grounds for the charge.

Damage and loss

If the car suffers damage, loss or theft that is not covered by the rate or cover you have purchased, you will be responsible for the applicable amount in accordance with your rental conditions.

This may include, among other things:

  • Damage to the vehicle not covered by your insurance.
  • Damage to tyres.
  • Damage caused by using the wrong fuel.
  • Loss of or damage to the keys.
  • Loss of the vehicle documentation.
  • Loss of or damage to other items supplied with the car.

Where a charge for damage applies, an additional €50 damage administration fee will be charged.

Fuel and refuelling

If you return the car without a full tank, you will be charged €19 for the refuelling service, in addition to the cost of the missing fuel.

If your rate requires payment of the fuel deposit in advance, the amount corresponding to the missing fuel will be deducted from the amount to be refunded.

Special cleaning

Normal use of the car does not incur a cleaning charge.

However, if you return it in a condition that prevents us from renting it again without special cleaning, you will be charged €50.

This may include stains, odours, sand, waste, organic matter or similar situations requiring more intensive additional cleaning.

V16 beacon and stickers

The V16 beacon and vehicle stickers must be returned with the car and in the same condition in which they were supplied.

If the V16 beacon is missing or not working when you return the vehicle, a €50 replacement and administration charge will apply.

If the environmental sticker or Wiber sticker is missing, a €10 replacement charge will apply.

Late return

You must return the car on the date and at the time shown in your rental agreement.

If you are late, you will be charged €25 for each day of delay, in addition to the applicable daily rental price for your rate.

Return to an unauthorised location

Pick-up and return must take place at the agreed location.

If you leave or abandon the car at a different location without prior authorisation from Wiber, you will be charged €100 for vehicle abandonment, in addition to any costs required to recover the vehicle.

These costs may include transport, administration and, where applicable, storage.

Out-of-hours pick-up

If you arrive at the airport meeting point after the service closing time, a €40 out-of-hours pick-up charge will apply.

The specific conditions and times vary by location and are detailed in the corresponding specific sections.

Fines and penalties

Fines, penalties and legal costs arising from offences committed during the rental are the responsibility of the driver.

In addition to the amount of the fine, Wiber applies a €35 administration fee for each fine that it has to process.

Electric vehicles

If you rent an electric vehicle, you must also return the charging cables supplied with it.

If you do not return the Type 2 Mennekes cables, you will be charged €400.

If the car runs out of battery during the rental, you will be responsible for any costs incurred as a result.

How do we manage charges?

We will only charge amounts that genuinely apply and that are proportionate to the actual cost or service provided.

Before making an additional charge, we will tell you what you are being charged for, how much and why, and provide written justification.

Where applicable, the amount may be charged to the card used for the booking.

If we identify an incorrect or improper charge, we will refund the amount within a maximum of 14 days from the date the error is confirmed, without prejudice to your legal rights.

During your rental

Accidents, breakdowns and fines

If you have an accident, breakdown or any other incident involving the car during your rental, it is important to know what to do.

Accident report Within 24 hours
Repairs Prior authorisation required

In the event of an accident, damage, theft or fire

If you have an accident, the car is damaged, or there is a theft or fire, including partial theft or fire:

  • Collect the full details of everyone involved and any witnesses.
  • Complete the accident report and provide it to Wiber within a maximum of 24 hours.
  • Do not admit or accept liability for the accident or sign any agreement or declaration to that effect.
  • Do not leave the car unattended without taking the necessary steps to protect it.
  • In the event of theft, you must file a police report and provide us with the report together with the vehicle key.

If you admit or accept liability on your own initiative, Wiber will not assume any consequences arising from that admission.

Breakdowns and repairs

Wiber covers oil changes and repairs required due to accidental mechanical breakdowns, provided they were not caused by negligence, lack of driving skill or misuse of the vehicle.

If you need to have a repair carried out during the rental, you must ask for our authorisation beforehand.

Once authorised, we may reimburse the amount when you provide the corresponding invoice issued in Wiber’s name.

Vehicle replacement

In the event of a breakdown or accident, Wiber is not obliged to provide a replacement vehicle.

Wiber is also not responsible for losses or accidents caused by mechanical failures, unless they are due to a defect in the vehicle’s maintenance.

If a replacement vehicle is ultimately provided, you must present your original, valid ID card or passport. Without this documentation, we cannot exchange the vehicle.

Fines and penalties

Fines, penalties and legal costs arising from offences committed during the rental are the responsibility of the driver.

If we receive notification of an offence committed during your rental, we will identify the responsible driver to the relevant authority and provide only the information necessary to process the fine.

We will also send you an email informing you that your details have been provided and will include any documentation we have received regarding the offence.

From that point:

  1. The authority will process the fine directly with you and send the official notification to the address provided.
  2. The notification will contain the amount, deadlines, any available reductions and instructions on how to pay or appeal.
  3. If you have any questions about the fine, payment or a possible appeal, you must contact the authority that issued the fine directly, as Wiber cannot intervene in its resolution.

The administration fees associated with fines are detailed in the Additional charges section.
