Plan your trip
Mallorca
The beaches of Mallorca are not all the same: some are long, family-friendly and have every service; others are hidden coves surrounded by pine trees, white sand and turquoise water; and some require you to arrive early, park patiently and walk for a few minutes to enjoy the best swim of the day. They have something for every type of traveller: long sandy beaches, small coves, family areas, natural corners and waters that shift from blue to green depending on the light.
With Wiber, you can hire your car at Palma de Mallorca Airport. With a car, you can discover the island at your own pace, choose the beach according to the wind, move between different areas and make much better use of each day. From Playa de Muro Mallorca to Cala Mesquida, from Cala Millor to Cala Esmeralda, Mallorca is full of routes that begin long before you reach the sand.
Getting around Mallorca by car allows you to combine several areas of the island in one trip: the north of Alcúdia Bay, the east coast, the coves of the south-east or the beaches of Peguera in the south-west. What’s more, many of the most beautiful beaches are located outside the main urban centres or in areas where public transport may be more limited.
Ideal for: families, couples, calm swims, long walks and easy beach days.
The Platja de Muro is one of the great highlights of the north of the island. When many people search for playa de muro mallorca, playa muro mallorca or simply platja de muro, this is usually exactly what they imagine: pale sand, shallow water, spacious areas and a perfect setting for spending the day.
According to official information from Platges de Balears, Platja de Muro generally refers to the 5.2 kilometres of coastline that form part of the municipality of Muro. Its Sector I is located about three kilometres from the centre of Port d’Alcúdia and is a natural continuation of Alcúdia beach.
One of the most special areas is Muro-Es Comú, located between Casetes des Capellans and Platja des Braç. Platges de Balears describes it as one of the most unspoilt and best-preserved beaches in Alcúdia Bay.
Playa de Muro is perfect if you are travelling with children, as many areas have a gradual entrance into the sea. It is also a good option if you are looking for a comfortable day out: there are hotels, restaurants, nearby parking areas and very accessible stretches.
If you are staying near Can Picafort or Port d’Alcúdia, you can visit it several times and choose different sectors. And if you are coming from Palma, having a car allows you to enjoy a full route around the north, combining Playa de Muro with Alcúdia, Port de Pollença or the Parc Natural de s’Albufera.
Ideal for: nature, photos, swimming with open scenery and a route through the north-east.
Cala Mesquida Mallorca is one of those beaches that surprises you with its setting. It is not just a beautiful cove: it is a landscape of fine sand, dunes, Mediterranean vegetation and low cliffs that give the swim a wilder feel.
Cala Mesquida, Cala Moltó and Cala Agulla were declared an Area of Special Natural Interest in 1991 by the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. Platges de Balears highlights its wide stretch of fine sand and its dune system, where the es Munt Gros dune stands out.
Go early in high season. It is a very well-known beach and the car park can fill up quickly. The best option is to plan it as the main destination of the day, especially if you want to enjoy it without rushing.
You can also combine it with other coves in the Capdepera or Artà area, always respecting the signposted access points and avoiding walking through protected dune areas.
Ideal for: families, seafront promenades, restaurants, hotels and plans with children.
Cala Millor Mallorca is one of the best-known beaches on the east coast. It has the balance many travellers are looking for: a wide beach, services, a seafront promenade and a holiday atmosphere.
It is a good option if you want to park and have everything close at hand: sand, restaurants, ice cream parlours, shops, accommodation and areas for walking when the sun goes down.
Choose Cala Millor if you are looking for comfort. Choose Cala Mesquida or one of the coves in the south-east if you prefer a more natural experience. On a route by car, you can combine both areas on different days to discover two very different sides of Mallorca.
Ideal for: couples, a quick swim, a route through Cala d’Or and turquoise waters.
Cala Esmeralda Mallorca lives up to its name. It is a small cove with greenish-blue water and a very convenient location within the Cala d’Or area. It is ideal to include on a route through the south-east, especially if you want to combine several coves in the same day.
It is a small cove, so it is worth arriving early. If it is full, you can move by car to other nearby coves around Cala d’Or or Santanyí. That is precisely the advantage of having a car: you are not tied to just one plan.
Ideal for: families, couples, travellers looking for services and a comfortable beach in the south-west.
The Peguera beaches are a highly recommended option if you want to enjoy the south-west of Mallorca without any complications. The area combines three main beaches: Palmira, Torà and La Romana.
Palmira is the largest of the three beaches in Peguera. Platges de Balears describes it as part of the group formed by Peguera Torà and Peguera Romana. La Romana, meanwhile, is the smallest of the three and is located between Peguera Torà and sa Punta des Gats.
Peguera is comfortable, tourist-friendly and very practical. It is an ideal area if you want to spend the day at the beach, eat nearby and return to the car without long walks. In addition, Calvià Town Council provides updated information on beach capacity at beaches such as Peguera, Palmanova, Magaluf and Santa Ponça, with data updated automatically every 10 minutes.
Ideal for: early risers, spectacular scenery, photography and a route through Santanyí.
Many travellers search for it as playa del Moro Mallorca, although its correct name is Caló des Moro. It is one of the most famous coves on the island, but also one of the most delicate in terms of access, space and overcrowding. This unspoilt slope is set between high walls with pine trees, shrubs, broom and mastic trees.
Do not plan it as a comfortable beach for spending the whole day with lots of luggage. It is more of a stop for those looking for a very special cove and willing to get up early, walk and adapt to the available space.
If you are travelling with small children, a pushchair, a large parasol or lots of bags, Playa de Muro, Cala Millor or Peguera may be more practical for you.
Ideal for: families, holiday accommodation and relaxed routes along the east.
If you are looking for a playa dorada mallorca, explore the east coast and the areas close to Sa Coma, Cala Millor or Calas de Mallorca.
Sa Coma is a comfortable area for family holidays: a wide beach, promenade, accommodation and services. It also makes it easy to combine several points on the east coast by car, such as Cala Millor, Porto Cristo or small nearby coves.
To make the most of your trip without spending too many hours driving, it is best to organise the beaches by area.
Start with Playa de Muro, especially if you are travelling as a family or looking for a long beach day. You can combine it with Port d’Alcúdia, Can Picafort or a visit to the surroundings of s’Albufera.
Set aside a day for Cala Mesquida Mallorca. Leave early, allow time for parking and enjoy the dune landscape. Afterwards, you can head to Capdepera or Artà to complete the day.
A comfortable route for those who prefer beaches with services. Cala Millor Mallorca and Sa Coma work very well for families, walks and relaxed days.
Perfect for those who want to discover smaller coves and turquoise waters. Cala Esmeralda Mallorca is a beautiful and accessible stop within Cala d’Or; Caló des Moro requires more planning and patience.
If you are looking for a comfortable area with services and a good atmosphere, the Peguera beaches are a safe bet. Palmira, Torà and La Romana allow you to enjoy the sea without making things too complicated.
If you only have one day and want comfort, choose Playa de Muro. If you prefer scenery and nature, choose Cala Mesquida. If you want a route with several coves, go for Cala Esmeralda and the Cala d’Or area.
Arrive early, especially in July and August. Many of the best beaches Mallorca have limited parking spaces or very busy access points.
Bring water, sun cream, comfortable footwear and some cash in case you visit areas with car parks or services that do not accept cards. Always check local signage, especially in natural areas, dune access points or protected zones.
It is also important not to leave visible items inside the car and to respect parking rules. In Mallorca, parking outside permitted areas can result in a fine or the vehicle being towed away.
