Travel Tips
Málaga
Málaga has it all—sun, history, amazing food… and a spectacular coastline. But if crowded parasols and over-Instagrammed beaches aren’t your thing, this article is for you. We're taking you on a road trip — true Wiber explorer style — to Málaga's most peaceful, secluded, and beautiful beaches.
They may not be the most famous, but they’re definitely the most unforgettable. These are the secret spots our local team in Málaga wants to share with you.
Let’s start in the Nerja area. Follow us!
If your traveler’s heart is drawn to cinematic landscapes, this one is quite literally from a movie. Maro Beach, also known as Playa Chica in the iconic Spanish TV show Verano Azul, is more than just a turquoise-water cove—it’s the gateway to one of Andalusia’s most breathtaking natural wonders: the Maro Waterfall.
This 15-meter-high waterfall flows straight into the sea from the cliffs of the Maro-Cerro Gordo Nature Reserve, creating a rare fusion of fresh and saltwater—something rarely seen in mainland Spain.
🚣 Kayak or paddleboard excursions will reveal the best-kept secrets of this natural paradise: sea caves, rock passages, and cliffs leading up to the waterfall.
Snorkeling and swimming: the water is so clear it feels like the Caribbean. Don’t forget your goggles!
Total respect: this is a protected environment. No littering, no loud music, no traces left behind.
How to get to the Maro Waterfall:
The best way is to rent a car and drive from Málaga along the A-7 to Nerja. From there, take the N-340 toward Maro and follow the signs to the nature park. Although you can reach it on foot via scenic trails, the most unforgettable way is from the sea.
A peaceful, alternative beach with few visitors. There are no services here, but there is history—ruins of an old mill and postcard-worthy scenery. Easy to access by car via the N-340 road, followed by a short walk down. If you’re looking for total disconnect, this is your place.
📸 Bring water, sunscreen, and your explorer spirit.
Located inside the Maro-Cerro Gordo Nature Reserve, this cove is a hidden gem nestled between cliffs. Access isn’t direct (you’ll need to walk or take a shuttle bus in summer), but it’s worth the effort.
🌊 Crystal-clear water, peaceful silence, and raw nature. Perfect for snorkeling and relaxed beach picnics.
This is one of the best nudist beaches in Málaga, also located in the Maro-Cerro Gordo Nature Reserve. Though technically in Granada province, it’s just next to the Málaga border and popular among road-tripping travelers. It’s inclusive, wild, and features restaurants that respect the natural setting.
☀️ Ideal for a slow day, free of stress and full of authenticity. A shuttle bus operates to help avoid traffic congestion.
Stretching almost 3 kilometers between farmland and sea, Almayate Beach is untouched and tranquil. There’s no promenade or development—just pure nature. Known especially for its naturist zone (one of Spain’s top-rated), it also offers textile areas, beach bars, and space for everyone.
🌾 Its wild vibe and peacefulness make it a well-kept secret.
Want a different beach experience without giving up comfort? This is your spot. It’s not completely secluded, but it has a calm, upscale atmosphere. Clean waters, easy car access, and plenty of space to relax in style.
🐾 Traveling with your dog? Just nearby is Playa del Castillo, a dog-friendly beach where your furry friend can run freely.
On the outskirts of Málaga city, this 350-meter beach is split by a giant rock—the namesake Peñón del Cuervo. What few know is that it’s a protected biological space, home to the endangered plant Siempreviva malagueña.
It features a designated BBQ area (yes—beach barbecues!) with no beach bars and no crowds. Climb the rock for incredible sea views.
👙 You’ll often find a mix of nudist and non-nudist bathers in this relaxed, family-friendly setting.
Looking for a wild and silent escape? Punta Chullera is one of Málaga’s few remaining virgin beaches. Its rock formations and small peaceful coves make it the perfect place to unplug, snorkel, or simply sit and watch the sea.
👙 Here, naturists and textile beachgoers coexist in total harmony.
